Catching Up On Some Pictures of Deacon - December 2008
Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach and Saving Abel
Jaspy and I attended the concert with the above bands this past Wednesday night. It was awesome. Not as awesome as Skindred, Sevendust and Disturbed at Saltair the Wednesday prior, but it was great nonetheless.
Avenged Sevenfold and Papa Roach completely stole the show from Buckcherry. We had seen Buckcherry open for Three Days Grace last year at Saltair, in which Buckcherry stole the show from the headliner. I got wrecked in the pit during Papa Roach's "Broken Home". Their lead singer, Coby, screamed at the top of his lungs that he wanted to see blood and I obliged. I got elbowed square in the back of the neck and then speared center mass. I was able to recover while Avenged was setting up and then worked by way up to the second row during their set (close enough to snag a pick).
Both Avenged and Papa Roach played quite a few songs that I had not heard prior to the show, but they were great live and were all awesome showmen.
Buckcherry was "good, not great" - Dwight Schrute. They played too much soft stuff after the prior bands had got the crowd all pumped up. Many of the crowd either sat down or left in the middle of their set. The only highlights of their set were the sweet videos/animations on the large screen in the background and their playing of "Lit Up" the third song in - should have ended on it. Instead they ended on a ballad that it was obvious nobody had heard - big mistake.
All in all we had a blast and are still recovering - a good sign of any good concert in my book.
